Stichting English Academy for Newcomers is proud to announce the launch of Guidance, Newcomer Knowledge Base. EAN Guidance is a constantly growing knowledge base with resources on:
- Asylum Procedures
- Legal Rights
- Housing
- Education
- Financial Support
Guidance was developed in response to feedback gathered from volunteers in the Mentorship program. It is designed to support mentors and mentees as they overcome various obstacles in pursuit of their goals.
Often, newcomers’ experience of navigating immigration bureaucracy is different than what is publicly available. For example, wait times for IND interviews may last months, contrary to stated policy. Through the Guidance Knowledge Base, mentors and mentees can make use of information from official policy as well as the direct experience of those undergoing that official policy.

What is a knowledge base?
If you have ever used Wikipedia, then you have used a knowledge base. A knowledge base contains articles that grow as users add to them. Moderators who edit the additions maintain quality. The moderators are Fenna Milbaur and Caitlin Broeders, both researchers from The Hague University of Applied Science.
How can I contribute?
You don’t need to be a mentor to contribute to the knowledge base. If you have valuable knowledge worth sharing about the practical, legal, or financial aspects of the refugee experience, get in touch by sending an email to p.wozny@englishacademyfornewcomers.nl .
